Curry Tofu Salad at Mellow Mushroom
I love tofu! Cooking it up with spices like curry makes it awesome. Enjoying it at Mellow Mushroom, where I don’t have to cook, and can enjoy a nice craft beer, makes it even better.

A curry is one of my favourite packed lunches. Too many people go for those awful frozen, pseudo-gourmet, ready-in-four minutes, lunches in a box.
These frozen cardboard squares of freeze-dried boringness can’t be tasty, contrary to the marketing claims.
With a curry, I get lots of veggies, meat and tons of flavour. The photo above is a basic Chicken Korma with green peppers, potatoes (sliced thin), zucchini, yellow squash and onion. For bonus points, I added quinoa instead of rice.
I ran the numbers and, statistically speaking, a homemade curry for lunch is 5,362 times more fun than a frozen, semi-edible and tasteless cardboard box.

Thai Ruby

15319 Amberly Dr., Tampa, FL 33647, (813) 558-0570

This Food Club loves some Thai Ruby. This place has great lunch specials and pleasantly spicy food.

Some of the spicier menu options can get hot, be warned. For several of us, we end up doctoring the food a bit more with the fantastic little spice tray. We like the pain. With this visit to Thai Ruby, some Food Clubbers overdid it with said spice tray and had sniffles / forehead sweats. Truly, this is a sign of proper spiciness.

If you do venture to North Tampa to visit this gem, take advantage of their lunch specials. It comes with soup, salad, a main course and a lovely little fried doughnut thingie. With most options falling around $10, it’s a good value.

While everything I’ve had at Thai Ruby has been tasty, I highly recommend the Fried Grouper Orange Curry. Be sure to throw in a Sweet Thai Tea…yummy.

Thai Chicken Curry at home
Last week I was wondering what to do with the Thai dragon peppers that fellow blogger, KG gave me from his mom’s garden.
Well, I figured it out… Boom. Thai chicken curry. Coconut milk, red curry paste, zucchini, chicken, red pepper, onions, and thanks to Mama G, a serious fiery kick!

Nicolette’s Taste of the Tropics
7605 N 56th St., Tampa, FL 33617
A plate of curried goat, rice and peas, shredded cabbage and fried plantains from Nicolette’s in Temple Terrace. Quite the treat and made even better by a freshly opened bottle of Scotch Bonnet. From the first bite to the last this meal was top notch.
