Summer Farmers’ Fair, Martha’s Vineyard, MA
I made my first visit to Martha’s Vineyard this summer. For these people (the peeps that actually live there, not the uber-rich who park their yachts in the marina for the summer), farming is the thing to do. Farm-to-table is not a trendy, hop on the bandwagon type of idea here. People farm for their livelihood.
They have an agriculture school and grammar school kids grew these prize-winning veggies. I think there is something to be said for the fact that these kids are not only “learning where they’re food comes from” — they are making it happen! The produce looks pretty vibrant for being harvested on a coastal island situated in the cold Atlantic, right? Go farmer kids!
